Unexpected Madrid: Why I loved This City
I am a strong believer in exchanging time for experiences. Which is why I use the most of my time in between client meetings and photoshoots, to travel and experience the world. When the opportunity to travel to Madrid, Spain came along, I rearranged my schedule to make sure that was a trip I could fully experience. If there are two words I would use to describe Madrid, Spain they would be Culture and Pride.
The people there are very proud of their culture and it shows, from the care given to preparing meals, all the way to the pride they take in informing visitors about the history of Spain. Madrid was amazingly clean, not that I expected it to be filthy, but it is something that is noticeable coming from the States.
It is also a loud city, but not in the sense that New York is loud with horns for no apparent reason. Madrid is loud in aromatic scents, the smell of fresh bread and cured meats fill the air. The sound of laughter and cheer in a distinctive [proper] Spanish tongue. It is loud in the sense you just want to sit back and embrace it all.
Getting around Madrid was remarkably simple, you can move through the entire city either via metro, or buses which seem to run every 5-10 minutes. For €1.50 a total of €3 round trip I was able to get around very easily via the bus and walk to the sites I wanted. I suggest taking the 150 to La Plaza Mayor. From there you can walk and see everything. Find a reference point once you arrive and just start exploring. Some great must-see locations which I visited are: El Palacio Real [Madrid’s Royal Palace], Plaza de España, and Catedral de Santa Maris.
